Rear-facing: The safest way for newborn babies to travel
For Infants aged from 0-12 months / up to 13kg
Your newborn baby must travel in a rear-facing seat. To secure, adjust the harness so the webbing comes through behind or below your baby’s shoulders. Many infant seats also fit into a stroller.
Forward-facing: The safest way for toddlers to travel.
The next stage – For infants aged 9 months – 3.5 years / 9kg to 18kg.
These bigger seats will allow your children to sit forward facing. Use semi-reclined so to keep their heads on the headrest and their airways open. Harness straps will also be available behind or below their shoulders.
Toddler seats – for children aged 3.5 – 12 years / 15kg to 36kg.
These seats face forward in an upright position and the shoulder straps come from harness slots placed at, or above, your child’s shoulders.
Booster seats: The next step before seatbelt use
Backless Boosters – For children from 21kg / 45kg
These have no back and must be used with a lap and shoulder belt system. The lap belt should sit low on the hips; the shoulder belt on the collarbone and not cross your child’s face or neck.
High-back boosters – For children from 21kg to 45kg
This type of booster seat has a back and, sometimes, side wings near the head. Must be used with a lap and shoulder belt system. This is a good option if your child falls asleep in the car.
Always keep infants and children under 12 in the back seat.
